About the drftwood
adriftwood.net is the site of Stacy Hughes. Back in the day when email addresses could only be eight characters, and I had about 30 seconds to come up with a name, ended up as 'drftwood', and liked it enough to keep. Someone once interpreted that as Dr. Footward. But only once. So when you see 'drftwood', that is I.
Home is split between Monterey Bay, California and Japan. Mostly Japan for the past 10 years. Of that time, about seven years since I first stepped foot in the door of an called Peace Boat (NPO / NGO / CSO / Peace Org: it has many names). Thought it would be a once around the world for three months, turned out to be eight times, six years, and a whole new education later. Four years in a UC has nothing on a year of Peace Boat when it comes to understanding our earth and ourselves. Now the roots back in California have dried up a bit, so I am back there to add some water, and eventually have a healthy foot on each side of the lovely Pacific ocean, with the hands free to reach out for the rest of our little earth, in a nice way.
Colin Powell for President. :) That usually throws people off guard, makes for lively conversation, and honest opinion. I'd be very happy to chat about this~
Otherwise, the ingredients of life include:
- Waves: bodyboarding, bodysurfing, long and short boarding. Do it all, much more enjoyable than just one, but oddly so few people seem to have that approach
- And, when living in Tokyo, a longboard skateboard. Concrete perfection everywhere!
- Books: Mutts, Robert Fisk, KV, The Boondocks, and so on
- No TV since 1994. Best change ever
- A good coffee shop. In Tokyo its Ben's (if yer rich) or Zoka. Home, there are millions, the way it should be
- Working for the good of humanity. If ya gots to be a cog in a machine, might as well be this one
- I suppose the camera gets a mention here too, albeit grudgingly and only just... ;)
